At-Tirmidhi says: 'And in The Hadith, There is a Story', Compilation, Authentication, and Analytical Study

Abstract

فإن كتاب «سنن الترمذي» من أنفع كتب السنة لطالب العلم، ومن أسهلها وأيسرها؛ لأن فيه كل ما يحتاجه طالب العلم من علوم الحديث، ففيه المتون، والأسانيد، وفيه التنبيه على علل الحديث، وفيه التنبيه على فقه الحديث، وما عليه العمل عند أهل العلم، وما ليس عليه العمل، وذكر المذاهب، والاختلاف على الرواة. وقد قال فيه مصنفه رحمه الله: «وَمَنْ كَانَ فِي بَيْتِهِ هَذَا الْكِتَابُ فَكَأَنَّمَا فِي بَيْتِهِ نَبِيٌّ يَتَكَلَّمُ». لذلك استهوانا هذا الكتاب، فأردنا أن نسهم في إزالة بعض ما قد يستشكل على طالب العلم، ومن ذلك أن الترمذي في بعض الأحاديث قد يعقب بقوله: «وَفِي الحَدِيثِ قِصَّةٌ»، مما يدفع إلى معرفة القصة وما فيها من تفاصيل مفيدة نافعة، حيث قمنا بجمع هذه الأحاديث وحصرها، وتخريجها، ودراستها، لما في ذلك من فائدة عظيمة، وقد جاء بعنوان: ما قال فيه الترمذي: «وفي الحديث قصة»؛ جمعا وتخريجا ودراسة". ويهدف البحث إلى معرفة عدد الأحاديث التي علق عليها الترمذي بأن لها قصة، وبيان درجتها، ودرجة إسناد الطريق الذي جاءت به القصة، وبيان فوائد ذلك. وتكمن مشكلةالبحث في كيفية الوقوف على قصة الحديث التي يشير إليها الترمذي، وهل قصة الحديث مروية بنفس إسناد الحديث مختصرا؟ واتبع الباحثان منهج الاستقراء، وبه جمعنا الأحاديث التي قال فيها الترمذي: "وفي الحديث قصة"، ثم جمع طرق هذه الأحاديث لمعرفة قصة كل حديث، ثم اتبع الباحثان المنهج الاستدلالي للحكم على إسناد قصة الحديث. ومن نتائج البحث: أن عدد الأحاديث التي قال فيها الترمذي "وفي الحديث قصة" أربع وعشرون حديثا. ومنها: أن الترمذي قد يشير إلى سبب ورود الحديث للوقوف على الملابسات التي قيل فيها الحديث، مما يعين على فهم الحديث فهما صحيحا. ومنها: أن معرفة قصة الحديث، وسبب وروده بمنزلة معرفة أسباب النزول بالنسبة للقرآن الكريم. ومنها: كل الأحاديث التي قال عنها الترمذي "وفي الحديث قصة"، جاءت القصة بنفس إسناد الحديث المختصر، على الأقل في الراوي الأعلى.

Abstract

The book Sunan At -Tirmidhi is among the most beneficial works of Hadith for students of Islamic knowledge, distinguished by its accessibility and comprehensive content. It encompasses the essential sciences of Hadith: texts (matn), chains of transmission (isnad), indications of hidden defects (‘ilal), jurisprudential insights (fiqh), scholarly practice, as well as mention of various schools of thought and differences in narrations. Its author, may Allah have mercy on him, said about it: “Whoever has this book in his house, it is as if there is a Prophet speaking in his house.” This is why we were drawn to this book, and we wanted to contribute by clarifying some matters that might be difficult for students of knowledge. One of the unique features of this work is At-Tirmidhi’s occasional commentary on certain hadiths with the phrase: “In the hadith, there is a story”. This phrase indicates the presence of a narrative context or background that enriches the understanding of the hadith. Accordingly, we gathered, compiled, authenticated, and studied these specific hadiths — those in which al-Tirmidhi made such a comment — due to the great benefit found in doing so. The research was titled: “What At-Tirmidhi said about it: 'And in the hadith, there is a story'— Compilation, Authentication, and Analytical Study.” This study aims to: Identify the number of hadiths where At-Tirmidhi uses the phrase: “In the hadith, there is a story.” Determine the authenticity of the hadiths and the reliability of the chains in which the stories appear. Examine the benefits of understanding the full narrative behind these hadiths. The research problem lies in locating the exact stories to which At-Tirmidhi alludes. Specifically: Are these stories narrated through the same isnād as the main hadith? The researchers adopted the inductive method to: Collect all hadiths in Sunan At-Tirmidhi where the author states: “In the hadith, there is a story.” Gather all available chains of transmission for these hadiths to identify and reconstruct the complete story. Apply the deductive method to assess the strength of each isnād and derive conclusions about the reliability and scholarly value of the stories. Among the findings of the study:  Twenty-four hadiths were found in Sunan At-Tirmidhi where the phrase “In the hadith, there is a story” was used.  In these instances, At-Tirmidhi often refers to the circumstances surrounding the hadith’s narration, which aids significantly in accurate comprehension.  Understanding the context and story behind a hadith plays a role analogous to the significance of knowing the asbāb An-nuzūl in Qur’anic studies.  In all cases examined, the story is transmitted through the same chain of narration as the summarized hadith — at least through the primary (highest) narrator.
