Abstract

The current era is witnessing an increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in Islamic jurisprudence, particularly in the field of Hadith studies, through automated hadith verification and evaluation programs. While these tools offer exceptional speed in collecting and classifying hadiths, serious concerns arise regarding the reliability and scientific accuracy of their outputs, necessitating rigorous critical analysis. This research aims to analyze the accuracy and reliability of AI models' outputs in hadith verification and evaluation. It also aims to identify the technical and scientific challenges facing AI in dealing with hadith texts (both chains of transmission and text), assess the feasibility of relying on AI as a critical tool in hadith studies, and propose suggestions for developing more reliable AI models to serve the Prophetic Sunnah. The research employs a descriptive-analytical approach, reviewing the technologies used, and an applied critical approach, conducting practical experiments on artificial intelligence models (such as Natural Language Processing (NLP) models) and applying them to selected hadiths (such as hadiths containing the word "security"). The results of these AI models are then compared with the rulings of leading hadith scholars. The research reached several conclusions, most notably: while AI models are highly effective in retrieving information and collecting hadiths, they are more akin to "retrieval programs" than precise "scientific critique" tools. They struggle to make definitive judgments on the chain of transmission (isnad). The study also revealed that AI can become "delusional" and generate fabricated or distorted hadiths (attributed or textually altered) that are not found in the original sources. Furthermore, current technology is unable to grasp the subtle contexts (hadith contexts) understood by specialized hadith scholars, leading to errors in understanding the text. Finally, AI is considered an auxiliary tool, not a replacement for scholars, and complete reliance on it weakens the cognitive development of specialists and spreads errors. The research recommends the necessity of careful human review (Human-in-the-loop) of all AI outputs before their adoption, without giving AI the final "judgment" authority over the authenticity or weakness of the hadith, limiting its role to "service" and research, and promoting cooperation between computer scientists and hadith scholars to produce tools that are consistent with the principles of prophetic hadith.
